Resident opposes Pellissippi extension

Dear Editor:

Do you want to preserve the rural character of Blount County? Do you want to preserve what farmland we have left? Would you want a four-lane highway coming through your farm or property?

As TDOT will be finishing its environmental assessment this year and formulating its recommendation for the extension of the Pellissippi Parkway in Blount County, I urge you to consider what a devastating affect this road will have on our county.

Dissecting Blount County with a road like this will only take away more valuable farmland and open spaces with more asphalt, which totally goes against the county’s stated objectives.

This project is yet another example of wasteful government spending and letting a few people get their way without regard for the citizens of the area. Land is one of the most important and valuable resources we have. Now is the time to take care of it.
